Introduction

 The City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic

Youth Sports Instructor

to demonstrate and explain the skills and rules of youth sports.

 

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 months period.

Classes are currently scheduled on Saturday mornings at Randolph and Udall Centers

This position provides service to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning and conducting specialized skill acquisition classes. Please note the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations. 

Essential Functions

Conducts instruction in a specialized area in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Plans class instructional activities or general camp activities for various youth sports; prepares a course outline and a list of necessary course materials for class participants; takes class attendance.

Supervises the activities of program participants to ensure participant safety during the instructional process; follows appropriate emergency procedures to protect the well-being of participants.

Assists in ensuring the general security and maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities and equipment; inventories equipment.

Adheres to applicable Parks and Recreation procedures, rules and regulations; completes required forms and activity records and reports; communicates with the parents of school age participants, as needed.

Obtains and evaluates participant feedback regarding the effectiveness of the instructional process and the success of the program activity.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area

*Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Special Job Requirements

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification

First Aid Certification

All candidates must be able to pass a background screening upon hire. All candidates not already CPR/First Aid certified must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification upon/after higher in accordance with the City's program.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. 

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which is calculated as:

  • 100% of your rating for education and work experience
