Introduction


 The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic

POTTERY INSTRUCTOR

This position provides service to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning, instructing and supervising a specialized class or program. Instruction may target groups across the age and ability spectrum.

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period.

Conducts instruction in the specialty of Pottery in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department. 

Explains and demonstrates principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of body, hands, and feet to achieve proficiency. 

Explains and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment or skill. 

Prepares instructional materials and supplies; sets up and cleans up room/area. 

Supervises the activities of program participants to ensure participant safety during the instructional process; follows appropriate emergency procedures to protect the well-being of participants. 

Ensures that participants in the class are engaged and the class abides by industry standards. 

Motivates all participants to accomplish their personal goals. 

Demonstrates positive customer service skills when communicating with participants, parents and staff. 

Assists in ensuring the general security and maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities and equipment; inventories equipment and notifies Program/Facility manager of all equipment needs or safety hazards. 

Adheres to applicable Parks and Recreation procedures, rules and regulations; completes required forms and activity records and reports including incident/accident reports, time records, and attendance; communicates with the parents of school age participants, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months post high school and one (1) year of directly related experience.

*Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Special Job Requirements

All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and pass a background screening upon hire.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the response to the supplemental questions. 

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant’s placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as: 

  • 100% of your rating for Training and Experience
