Introduction

 The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic

DANCE CLASS INSTRUCTOR

to teach beginning Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Creative Dance, Mexican Folklorico and Happy Feet.

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period.

This posting is for dance classes for ages 2-12 years.

The dance classes will be held at Randolph Recreation Center and Morris K. Udall Recreation Center

The dance classes are scheduled various days throughout the week to include Saturday mornings

This position provides service to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Leisure Class program and is responsible for planning and conducting specialized skill acquisitions classes. Please note that the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations, classes are held throughout the week, with various day and evening classes as well as Saturdays.

Essential Functions

Conducts instruction in a specialized area of dance in connection with the fee-based instruction program offered to the public

Works in a recreation center setting with participants ranging in ages from toddler to adults

Provides leadership and instruction in beginning to advance techniques/movements

Provides instruction in the specialized area of dance in one or more of the following: Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Folklorico, Happy Feet and Creative Dance

Responsible for supervising 8-15 participants

Develop a syllabus for each class

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area

*Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Special Job Requirements

All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and pass a background screening upon hire.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the response to the supplemental questions. 

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant’s placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as: 

  • 100% of your rating for Training and Experience
