The Planning and Engineering Division of the Tucson Water Department is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Electrical Engineer involved in the development and implementation of Capital Improvement Projects within the Plant Design section.  This is a professional/supervisory position that requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgement.

Working in this position includes close coordination with all sections of the Water Department and outside agencies.

Currently, this is a hybrid/telecommuting position where approximately 50% of the work is completed in the office or field and 50% of the work is completed virtually. This model may change based on future business needs.

General Description

Manages facility electrical design projects including coordination with other professional disciplines.

Essential Functions

Develops the scope of work for the designs of plant instrumentation, water control systems, and electrical power systems

Develops and reviews detailed electrical and control system drawings and specifications in compliance with Tucson Water Standards and building code

Prepares the budget for projects by identifying scope of project, estimating costs, and time preparing total budget

Writes design reports, contract documents, and correspondence related to electrical and control systems for water production facilities

Develops and analyzes technical calculations, electrical schematics, ladder logic programs, and piping and instrumentation diagrams related to water production facilities

Manages facility electrical projects by coordinating design developments, scheduling projects, developing budgets, and coordinating construction activities. Hires the design team and construction team and reports construction progress

Monitors projects to ensure adherence to project budgets and schedule. Coordinates changes as required

Monitors the development of the electrical restructuring by managing the projects electrical load, profiling, and procurement of energy services

Develops contract documents, analyzes schematics, oversees the incorporation of underground conduit, and represents the City with statewide or regional organizations.

Acts as a liaison between City agencies, consultants, contractors, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years of electrical engineering experience

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be considered.

Special Job Requirements

Registered as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Arizona

Valid and unrestricted driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• At least 5 years’ experience in municipal water engineering services
• At least 3 years’ experience in water system electrical design
• Supervisory experience
• Demonstrated construction management experience
• Demonstrated project management experience

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List. An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

• 10% of your rating for education and work experience
• 90% of your oral board interview

Selection interviews may be conducted post-list by the hiring manager.

This recruitment will establish a Civil Service Eligibility List that will be utilized to fill all vacancies within Tucson Water occurring within the next 6 months.
