Introduction

 

THE TUCSON CITY COURT is seeking applications from attorneys interested in becoming a Special Magistrate Pro Tem Judge at the City Court.

Attorneys who are accepted must be willing to give up their practice in City Court.  Attorneys with criminal trial experience are preferred. 

The pay for special magistrates is $125.00 for each half-day of service.  Of course, volunteer services are also welcome.  Training will be provided for all those appointed as special magistrates. Additionally, arrangements can be made to accommodate schedules of attorneys who can work only certain sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications require residency in Arizona for a minimum of one year immediately preceding recommendation and must be admitted to the practice of law for a minimum of five years immediately preceding recommendation. Membership in the State Bar of Arizona is required.

Selection Plan

Applications are available at the Administration office on the 2nd floor of the City Court building, Room 201 at 103 E. Alameda, Tucson, AZ. or by calling 791-4189 to request a form by mail.  Recruitment opens from January 14, 2022, through February 14, 2022. Required documents must be returned by 4:00 pm (MST), Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Conclusion

Position will require a satisfactory criminal background check and Public Records Check. Fingerprinting and reference checks will be conducted. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the above requirements. The City Court is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
