The Director of Transportation is appointed by the City Manager and reports to an Assistant City Manager.  The Director of Transportation is responsible for managing, planning, organization and coordinating all programs, functions, and activities of the Department of Transportation & Mobility.  This position provides leadership on an organization-wide and community basis to ensure that public services are provided in alignment with the City's strategic objectives.  The transportation and mobility needs of the community are documented in the recently completed "Move Tucson" strategic plan, which lays out the investments needed to modernize, expand and optimize Tucson's multiple transportation modes to meet our needs into the future.

The Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility is responsible for moving our citizens safely and enhancing economic development opportunities.   The Department consists of 9 Divisions:  Director's Office, Administrative Services, Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Planning, Streets & Traffic Maintenance, Transit, Park Tucson, and Real Estate.

Requirements for this position require a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, Business or Public Administration (or closely related field) and seven years of progressive transportation management experience.  A Master's degree is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Specific requirements are as follows:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, Business or Public Administration (or closely related field).  A Master's degree is preferred

Seven years of progressive transportation management experience

Over seven years of supervisory management experience in the administration of a large multi-functional transportation operation

Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Arizona is preferred

Creditable service does not accrue during any reemployment period.
