The City of Tucson's Business Services Department is looking for a Surplus Auction and Materials Management (SAMM) Specialist. SAMM manages two warehouse's. One warehouse supports Fire and Police logistics; and the other supports all other city departments.

 

General Description

Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the materials management, auction and surplus programs.

Essential Functions

Manages and maintains inventory levels by communicating with the contract officers and analyzing inventory reports to prepare requisitions, place orders, expedite orders, replenish deleted stocks, prepare orders and transfer inventory.

Assists in the receiving area by loading and unloading items, receiving inventory and special order items, identifying and resolving discrepancies, stocking inventory, distributing inventory, completing reports, entering data into automated systems, filling orders and delivering inventory.

Returns items by sorting, categorizing, determining the vendor, researching current inventory needs, processing paperwork, entering data requirements and contacting vendors.

Maintains records of all incoming / outgoing surplus; schedules delivery of auction/surplus items telephonically or electronically.

Monitors compliance on deliveries quality, quantity and price against invoices, purchase orders, packing slips, contract order release forms, or other documents;

Conduct research on auction/surplus items to create appropriate, detailed descriptions to maximize auction results.

Photographs and creates displays of items for auctions and places on website.

Assists customers with viewing and requesting available surplus.

Palletize, stack and store surplus/ auction items, using forklifts, material handling, equipment, shrink wrap machine and other specialized equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years materials management experience in a warehouse environment 

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Special Job Requirements

Forklift Operator Certification required to be locally obtained upon hire

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be inbited to participate in a panel board interview.

  • Panel Board Interviews will be held: Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List.  An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 40% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 60% of your panel board interview

The list may be used by any City department with an approved vacancy to fill in the next 6 months. Selection will be made in accordance with CSR III, Section 2.
