The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic
Health & Fitness Instructor
to plan and conduct group exercise activities including Senior Fitness, Indoor Cycling, Cardiovascular Exercise, Strength Training, and Stretching
This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.
Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period.
The Health & Fitness Instructor provides services to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning and conducting of specialized skill acquisition classes. Please note the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations, classes are held throughout the week, with various days and evening classes as well as on Saturdays.
Conducts instruction in a specialized are in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department
Plans class instructional activities, prepares a course syllabus and a list or lists of necessary course materials for class participants
Works in a recreation center setting with participants ranging in age from 14 to 50+
Provides leadership and instructions in Health & Fitness classes set to music...includes warm-up, cardio workouts, strength, endurance, and cool-down
Experience in the use of hand weights, dyna bands, stop, weighted bars and yoga balls.
Responsible for supervising 10-25 participants in a group instructional setting
Ability to adapt skills to multi-level teaching for participants skills and abilities
Supervises the activities of program participants to ensure participant safety during the instructional process; follows appropriate emergency procedures to protect the well-being of participants
Assists in ensuring the general security and maintenance of Park and Recreation facilities and equipment; inventories equipment
Adheres to applicable Parks and Recreation procedures, rules and regulations; completes required forms and activity records and reports; communicates with the parents, as needed
Obtains and evaluates participant feedback regarding the effectiveness of the instructional process and the success of the program activity.
Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the response to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in Oral Board Interviews.
The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on this list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
