Introduction

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for charismatic and energetic

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION WORKERS

to assist with summer Therapeutic Recreation / Inclusion Programs

for participants with disabilities ages 3-22

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that works on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

This position is responsible for safely and creatively leading recreational activities including indoor and outdoor sports, games, crafts, performing arts, swimming, and field trips for up to10 participants.

Most camp hours of operation are from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm and Teen Camps are from 1:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

A morning shift may consist of working from 7:30 am  - 2:30 pm and an afternoon shift may be 1:30 pm - 7:30 pm

These are only examples and shifts are assigned as needed.  

Essential Functions

Assists or independently supervises participants with disabilities in recreational activities

Actively, creatively, and safely plans and leads indoor and outdoor games, crafts, sports, and other recreational activities

Ability to understand and administer policies and procedures, and maintain communication with parents and staff

Ensures the safety of program participants by enforcing discipline and behavior policies

Supports safety programs by adhering to policies and procedures, and reporting accidents and hazardous conditions immediately to a supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Less than High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: Three months of full-time employment and/or volunteer experience involving customer contact

Special Job Requirements

At least 16 years of age at time of application

All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and pass a background screening upon hire

Some positions may require an unrestricted driver's license with at least 24 months of licensed driving experience

Preferred Qualifications

American Sign Language skill preferred if assigned to work with the deaf/hard of hearing program

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: the Week of April 20, 2020

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 20% of your rating for Training and Experience
  • 80% of your Oral Board Interview
