To remain eligible, you must maintain your permanent or probationary Civil Service employment status through the actual date of transfer. The Eligibility List may be used by any City department with an approved vacancy to fill in the next 6 months. Selection will be made in accordance with CSR III, Section 2. The list of employees eligible for consideration will remain in effect for 6 months after their names are provided to the hiring authorities. General Description

The Department of Transportation's Street Maintenance Division is seeking a skilled Construction Maintenance Worker to install, maintain, and repair commercial irrigation related equipment.  This position is responsible for locating and marking underground irrigation systems.   

Essential Functions

Makes installations, maintains and repairs irrigation systems by acquiring parts, uses specialized tools, operates machinery and associated electrical systems for irrigation controllers and valves.

Maintains equipment by changing motors and monitoring, repairing and cleaning all equipment and machinery involved in work processes.

Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and associated irrigation systems.

Operates heavy equipment and machinery.

Reviews project blueprints and schematic diagrams and performs bluestaking as necessary.

Performs walk-thru's on departmental construction projects and develops punch lists. 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications: At least 2 years of experience installing, maintaining, repairing, commercial  irrigation systems.  

Valid and Unrestricted CDL - Class B

Note:  An employee who does not posses the required license at the time of selection may be conditionally selected and will be required to obtain the required license within sixty (60) calendar days of selection.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held:  The week of June 25, 2018.

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List.  An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 10% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 90% of your oral board interview

Conclusion

This position requires a satisfactory Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle History Report.  Reference checks may also be conducted prior to an offer of employment.  Employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing any of the above requirements.

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D, or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
