DANCE INSTRUCTOR(NONPERM)

Introduction

The Parks & Recreation Department is looking for experienced, enthusiastic instructors to teach Ballet, Tap and Creative Dance programs at various recreation centers.

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

This position provides service to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning and conducting specialized skill acquisition classes.  Please note the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations, classes are held throughout the week, with various day and evening classes as well as on Saturday and Sundays. 

Essential Functions

  • Conducts instruction in a specialized area of dance in connection with a fee-based instruction program offered to the public
  • Works in a recreation center setting with participants ranging in ages from toddlers to adult
  • Provides leadership and instruction in beginning to advanced techniques/movements
  • Provides instruction in the specialized area of dance in one or more of the following: Ballet, Tap and Creative Dance
  • Responsible for supervising 8-15 participants

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area

Special Job Requirements

All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and a pass a background screening upon hire.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in Oral Board Interviews.

Notifications of applicant status will be sent by email on July 3, 2018.

Oral Board interviews will be held: Tuesday, July 10, 2018

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as: 

  • 20% of their Training and Experience
  • 80% of their Oral Board Interview
