The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a Senior Recreation Worker - Van Driver for the Armory Center Senior Program

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

Under general supervision of the Senior Service Supervisor, manages the Transportation component for the Senior Nutrition Program which provides daily lunches to older adults; organizes social activities for nutrition site participants; provides participants with social services information and referrals; and performs related work as required.

Essential Functions

  • Transports seniors of all abilities to the Center for the Congregate meal program.
  • Schedules transportation.
  • Maintains records and reports as required by the City, County, and funding source.
  • Publicizes programs and services.
  • Administers and adheres to all policies and procedures of the department and City.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures and reports accidents and hazardous conditions immediately to a supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Less than High School

Must be 18 years old at the time of application

Minimum Experience Qualifications: Six months of full-time employment and/or volunteer experience involving customer contact driving commercial vehicles or shuttles

Must possess a valid and unrestricted Driver License with two years of driving experience, and a clean driving record

Special Job Requirements

At least 18 years of age at time of application

Must be able to pass a background screening and obtain a Level 1 fingerprint clearance card upon hire

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.

Notifications of applicant status will be sent by email on August 24, 2018. Please make sure to monitor your email for interview information.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: Thursday August 30, 2018.

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 20% of your rating for Training and Experience
  • 80% of your Oral Board interview
