Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, rebuilds, and modifications on ambulances and fire apparatus to include aerial ladders, aerial platforms, pumpers, and specialized fire support equipment. Inspections include replacing fluids and filters, performing tests and recording test results, cleaning, checking, adjusting, and replacing wear components as needed, and ensuring that all equipment is in proper operating condition meeting manufacturer's specifications.
Repairs vehicles and equipment in the shop and field by troubleshooting, repairing and replacing defective parts and components, investigates malfunctions and breakdowns, and reports root cause failures. Performs road tests on Class B and D vehicles.
Rebuilds and repairs diesel engines, transmissions, fire pumps, hydraulic pumps and motors, and ancillary equipment. Disassembles, inspects, and evaluates internal and external components using precision measuring equipment, orders parts, reassembles and installs components verifying clearances and tolerances, performs final adjustments, as necessary.
Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and adjusts all vehicle systems and components, including but not limited to, complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, HVAC components, steering and suspension systems, as well as air and hydraulic brake systems.
Reads, comprehends, and applies technical information found in vehicle service manuals and websites.
Records work performed and parts installed on vehicles, prepares vehicle status reports, parts requisitions, and work orders using a computerized fleet maintenance program.
Follows established safety policies and procedures.
Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 4 years professional experience performing maintenance and repairs on Class 3 or higher vehicles, or equivalent equipment.

License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
