CORROSION CONTROL TECHNICIAN (#4028)

General Description

Maintains cathodic protection and corrosion monitoring systems for metallic pipelines and structures.

Essential Functions

Performs corrosion monitoring of metallic pipelines and structures in accordance with the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) standards for corrosion control of metallic pipelines and infrastructure.

Maintains corrosion monitoring assets and impressed current systems including anode junction boxes, remote monitoring units, corrosion test stations and electrical rectifiers.

Hand work includes digging trenches, installing, upgrading and removing equipment.

Collects field data using a voltage meter to measure voltage potentials between the structure and soil by performing a structure to soil or structure to water potential, measuring and verifying electrical continuity by utilizing ohms law.

Performs preliminary data review and provides a data analysis to Corrosion Control Supervisor.

Maintains files and databases by entering collected information from existing, new and proposed infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year maintaining water corrosion monitoring systems or three years experience maintaining water distribution systems 

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Water Distribution Grade 1 Certification

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Driving Requirements

License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
