AQUATICS PROGRAM MANAGER (#3330)

General Description

Manages and coordinates specialized aquatic recreation programs and facilities, including supervising personnel and administering the section budget.

This job reports to: Administrator or Deputy Director

Essential Functions

Supervises and coordinates the equivalent of two or more fulltime employees, and all assigned work.

Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of workload, monitoring levels of resources, establishing timelines, assigning work. 

Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, making recommendations on employee discipline, and other human resources issues, evaluating and managing employee performance, discussing and identifying personnel issues and facilitating resolutions.

Reviews, develops and approves policies and procedures for division to assure that programs are effective in meeting community needs and conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations. 

Monitors progress, recommends changes and suggestions, writes, reviews and edits reports prepared by staff, and approving completed projects and reports.

Prepares reports and records for purposes of public relations and submission to Administrator or Deputy Director.  

Applies innovation to programs, engagement, staff development, approaches to meeting industry challenges in delivering aquatic services.

Coordinates public information and community engagement methods with department Public Information Office to ensure awareness of programs, operation hours and job opportunities.

Prepares and monitors the section budget, to include long range capital repairs and replacement needs. 

Creates and follows a periodic inspection and assessment schedule of fixed assets of pool facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years of Lead or Supervisory experience managing and coordinating aquatic recreation programs or related functional area.

"Lead" is defined as leading at least 1 full-time FTE in a work unit. It does not include leading projects, departments, contractors, interns, etc. "Supervisory" is defined as having supervised at least 1 full- time FTE. 

Driver’s License & Type: Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Driving Requirements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
