Exercises regular independent judgment while performing the following:
Regularly directs or supervises the work of at least two fulltime employees at the supervisor level in the section. Coordinates assigned supervisory personnel and their projects ensuring timely and quality activities for the benefit of the section, division, department, City and the community.
Oversees the planning, implementation, direction and management of all functions and resources of the section to achieve the strategic objectives of the department and the City in an efficient and effective manner.
Assists with implementing the department vision through section activities and leads the section to maximum employee productivity and morale through hiring, disciplining, evaluating employee performance, investigating and resolving grievances and other coordinating human resources actions.
Develops and administers the section budget with staff assistance.
Ensures that section operations conform with local, state, and federal governmental regulations and other applicable rules and requirements.
Prepares, reviews, and certifies all surveys within area of responsibility by checking accuracy, researching legal material, and providing professional opinions regarding boundary locations based on legal precedents per ARS 32-142, 33-105 and 33-106.
Prepares and certifies legal descriptions in accordance with ARS 32-142 by performing or verifying calculations, researching court cases and state statutes, and consulting survey material.
Prepares, certifies, and records boundary and topographical surveys. Checks construction plans for accuracy. Utilizes professional software programs for the production of survey drawings. Uses specific line types and symbols to coordinate with software used by departmental design personnel.
Coordinates the activities of survey crews by working with the survey field supervisor to ensure that requests for survey work are completed in a timely and professional manner. Resolves survey design problems.
Maintains technical or professional knowledge through such means as attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, taking classes and participating in developmental activities.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years professional-level experience in land surveying; at least two years of which must be as a registered land surveyor

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
