SURVEY TECHNICIAN (#2001)

General Description

Assists with technical land surveys by setting up instruments for sight elevations and measurements, determining boundaries and elevations, and assisting with data collection and field notes.

Essential Functions

Sets up instruments for sight elevations and measurements by leveling and plumbing rods, adjusting targets, measuring horizontal distances, setting up and operating various elevation rods and clearing objects from line of sight

Assists Survey Instrument Technician with surveys by operating station, system receivers and survey optical and electronic measuring equipment

Determines boundaries and elevations by clearing markers, digging to locate monuments and property markers, setting up stakes and nails, and marking specific locations and control points

Maintains supplies and vehicles by inventorying equipment, preparing supplies, and cleaning and performing preventative maintenance of vehicles

Performs research and clerical duties by researching records of surveys, plats, maps, deeds, and other data, assisting with recording survey drawings and data transfers, recording field notes and drawings, and copying

Confirms and performs calculations by taking survey notes, checking and performing calculations, and interpreting survey notes, data, and computations

Sets stakes for line and grade by using a sledge hammer and pick

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: Under 1 year land surveying

License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
