DEFINITION

Under general supervision, performs work of average difficulty; assists with implementation of programs in local school districts; and performs related or other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This class is the first level in the Dental Aide series. An employee in this class is responsible for providing general assistance with school district programs.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Conducts classroom presentations on dental health, nutrition, and oral hygiene.
  • Promotes dental disease prevention through education and skill development.
  • Assists with planning and scheduling classroom visits.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports regarding program activities.
  • Attends the annual conference on dental health programs presented by the State Department of Health.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One year of work experience in working with young people in a training and learning capacity.

KNOWLEDGE

Methods and principles of dental hygiene, including dental histology, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology; basic knowledge of methods for communicating with and teaching young people.

ABILITY

Work with and provide instruction to young people; understand and learn dental information; train and make group presentations; tactfully and courteously represent San Joaquin County Public Health Agency in contacts with others; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
