Under general supervision, leads technical staff, tests an repairs complex medical equipment and does related or other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.

This is the lead worker level class in the Biomedical Equipment Technician series. Incumbents supervise and train other Technicians and maintain a variety of complex medical equipment.

• Supervises, trains, assigns, evaluates and reviews the work of assigned staff; assists in selection of staff.
• Repairs and adjusts a variety of complex medical equipment; utilizes schematic diagrams and test instruments to locate malfunctions; develops and implements a preventive maintenance program for medical equipment; assists in testing and evaluating equipment prior to purchase.
• Modifies and/or fabricates medical equipment to conform to new specifications or requirements.
• Performs equipment and circuit safety inspections; records electrical measurement readings on equipment history files, assuring compliance with hospital licensing regulations and accreditation standards.
• Assists in developing and providing in-service training programs related to safe operation of medical equipment.

Education: Completion of 60 semester units in an accredited college or university with a major in electronics or a related area or completion of an advanced military electronics school.

Experience: Two years experience in the repair, maintenance or modification of medical equipment.

Substitution: Additional-qualifying experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.
