DEFINITION

Under immediate supervision, performs limited, routine, and repetitive clerical tasks; and does related or other work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This class is exempt from the Civil Service System and is designed as a learning and working level class for persons with intellectual or physical impairments.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Sorts, checks, counts, matches and assembles materials; helps stock and issue supplies; packs and unpacks boxes and packages.
  • Copies names and numbers from one source to another; does alphabetical and numerical filing.
  • Folds materials and stuffs envelopes; opens, stamps, picks up and delivers mail; provides messenger service.
  • Keeps work and storage areas and equipment neat and orderly.
  • Makes simple arithmetic calculations.
  • May operate a typewriter to prepare lists and labels and to fill in forms and to make copies of printed or hand written material; may operate adding, copying and other office machines.
  • May greet people and use telephones to accept information, refer calls or take simple messages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Successful completion of a training program in office occupation skills, equivalent to those sponsored or recognized by the State Department of Rehabilitation for persons with intellectual or physical impairments.

 

Substitution:    On-the-job training in an approved office occupation skill setting may be substituted for one required training program.

The alphabet, simple arithmetic, simple grammar.

ABILITY

Learn and perform limited, routine, and repetitive tasks associated with office occupations; follow oral, written, or gestural instructions; sort, count, check, match and assemble materials; make simple arithmetical computations; file by alphabetical and numerical sequence; copy written information accurately and legibly; learn to operate office equipment including typing, adding, and copying machines; work with others in an office setting.
