Definition

Temporary Service Worker Opportunities: The County of Santa Cruz is working on a variety of regular and disaster-service related efforts. We are hiring for a variety of extra-help/temporary positions, including COVID-19 support roles throughout Santa Cruz and Watsonville.  Opportunities may include drivers, greeters, clerical support, and other.  

We follow State and County safety guidelines and provide training. We are seeking individuals who will promote a safe and healthy environment based on respect and dignity for all.  

Tasks may include the following:

Employment Standards

Clerk I: $19.17/hour
Certain employees may qualify for a $2.00 per hour  extra help differential. 

Highlighted Tasks:
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public and co-workers.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Maintain simple records; file alphabetically; and spell correctly.
• Exercise discretion and judgment in caring for materials.
• Coordinate with staff to maintain consistent operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

No specific training or experience is required.  Training will be provided.

Clerk II: $20.76/hour 
Certain employees may qualify for a $2.00 per hour extra help differential.

Highlighted Tasks in addition to those listed in Clerk I:
• Perform work involving a degree of independent judgment, speed, and accuracy.
• Quickly learn the specific operations assigned.
• Make simple arithmetic computations.
• Adjust schedules to meet changing priorities.
• Stand for long periods of time, and work in a noisy environment.
• Enforce rules, policies, and procedures in a consistent and trauma informed manner.
• Monitor, inventory, and maintain supplies, and materials.
• Act as liaison between staff and management.  Keep daily records.
• Other duties as assigned.

One year of experience comparable to the duties above. Training will be provided.

Knowledge: Working knowledge of office procedures and practices. 

Clerk III: $22.38/hour 
Certain employees may qualify for a $2.00 per hour extra help differential.

Highlighted Tasks in addition to those listed in Clerk I & II:
•Maintain outside communication and coordinate with the County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) leadership, management team, and/or medical/health workers.
• Adapt, implement, and modify work methods and procedures to serve changing needs and efficiently utilize limited resources.
• Perform varied and difficult clerical work involving independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed. 
• Read and write English; spell correctly and use correct English. Write neatly and legibly.
• Make arithmetic computations.
• Maintain complex records; collect and organize data; and prepare written reports.

Two years of experience comparable to the duties above. Training will be provided.

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of office procedures and practices including preparation of correspondence and reports and filing; general knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and some knowledge of the principles of supervision.

Special Requirements/Conditions:

License Requirement: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License from the start of employment is required for some positions.
