Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. 

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university and will be enrolled in the 2024/2025 school year.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is seeking an intern in the Diversity Department. The intern will work under the supervision of a Senior Diversity Officer to: 

  • Assist with mbe/wbe/vbe certification process. 
  • Assist with upcoming small business and mentor protege programs. 
  • Assist with communication with our vendors, e-mail and calls. 
  • Assist with the planning of our yearly vendor outreach fair. 
  • Assist the clerical support with filing and miscellaneous clerical duties.
After interning with the Diversity Section, the intern will understand how affirmative action works in government contracting.  The intern will learn how a special district like the MWRD has a core mission and will learn how the Diversity Section operates within that core mission.  The intern will learn how the Diversity Section plays a role in the improvement of the lives of business owners who have been historically marginalized.  The intern will also learn how the legislative process works with respect to contracts where affirmative action goals are applied. 
Expected work hours are 35 hours a week, 7 hours a day. All work hours will occur between 8:45 AM - 4:30 PM. The internship will be entirely in-person. Remote work is not an option for the internship.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

The intern should have familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.  The intern should have good communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with employees departmentally and agency wide.

Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree.
