MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.
Paid Interns
Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour.

Description:
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking an intern for the Office of Public Affairs. Responsibilities include creating visual assets such as social media graphics, posters, and digital illustrations.
The intern will support senior designers by preparing files, resizing images, and updating layouts, as well as participating in brainstorming sessions to contribute creative ideas. Additional duties include following brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all materials, performing basic photo editing (color correction, cropping, and retouching), and organizing project files while maintaining a well‑structured digital asset library.
The role may also involve assisting with drone, photography, and video projects, along with other tasks as assigned.

Applicants should be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in journalism, public relations, public affairs, environmental affairs or communications.
