MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.
Paid Interns
Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour.

Description:
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is seeking a Treatment Plant Operations Intern for the Maintenance and Operations Department. The intern will perform entry‑level engineering tasks, including basic equipment research, document review and development, and data analysis. The role will involve work in both office and field settings.
Interns will learn the fundamentals of wastewater treatment, with emphasis on primary, secondary, and solids treatment processes. They will also gain an understanding of how various Sections and Departments within the District operate and interact to support the District’s overall mission as a comprehensive wastewater utility.

Educational Requirements:
Minimum of one year of undergraduate work in any engineering discipline.
Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in engineering.
