Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  •  Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university and will be enrolled in the 2024/2025 school year.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago's Human Resources Department is seeking an intern to serve in the Employee Selection Section. The prospective intern will assist in the areas of recruitment and employment.

Intern will gain an understanding of:

  • competitive civil service testing, 
  • hiring processes and procedures, 
  • interviewing processes and procedures, 
  • and recruitment strategies. 
Duties will include but are not limited to: 

  • reviewing interview documents, 
  • reviewing electronic surveys and rating documents, 
  • assisting in test administration, 
  • organization of recruitment and transfer documents, 
  • updating employment status, 
  • aligning transfer documents with employee requests, 
  • working with the personnel requisition team with the online applicant tracking system (ATS), 
  • and attending Career Fairs.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must be a current college student seeking a degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources Administration/Industrial Relations, Organizational Behavior, or Business Management.
