Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is in search of a current college student seeking an internship opportunity in the Human Resources Department. The prospective intern will work in the Employee Relations and Compensation and Benefits sections. Duties will include but are not limited to scheduling drug/alcohol training for supervisors, assisting in the preparation and review of pre-bargaining data, conducting I9 audits, preparing new hire materials, maintaining personnel records, and updating the job classification database. The intern will split their time between these two human resources functions gaining an understanding of the processes and procedures related to onboarding new employees, complying with various personnel and record retention laws, and administering employment policies.

Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $18.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Attention to detail

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Employee Relations, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior.
