Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is in search of a current college student seeking an internship opportunity in the Maintenance & Operations Department. The prospective intern will assist with field work, GIS mapping and sampling activities involved in the planting and harvesting of crops.  The intern would also answer calls and direct visitors; provide information to the general public; and perform routine administrative and support tasks as needed. The intern will also be expected to perform basic bookkeeping activities such as reconciling invoices, processing and tracking payments. At the conclusion of this internship the prospective intern will gain experience in testing, monitoring, and knowledge of Agricultural Best Management Practices.  


Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $18.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Can work both independently and in a team-environment
  • Familiarity using computers
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions

Educational Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program majoring in agriculture, biology, or environmental sciences. 
  • Resides within Central Illinois.
