Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is seeking two Treatment Plant Operations interns in the Maintenance and Operations Department. The respective interns will receive experience working in an office and field environment. Interns will learn the basics of wastewater treatment and entry-level engineering duties such as: basic equipment research, document review and creation, and data analysis. The internship will be concentrated in either the primary and secondary treatment processes or the solids treatment processes. Both interns will have the opportunity to cross-train and learn about both sections to understand how the District functions as a wastewater utility.

Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $18.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic Engineering/Technical science knowledge
  • Interest in wastewater treatment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Can work both independently and in a team-environment
  • Willingness to learn and participate in all aspects of the internship

Educational Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two-years of undergraduate work in any engineering discipline. 
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student studying environmental or civil engineering.
