Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Written statement stating interest in Environmental Justice.
  • Resume.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (District) is in search of a current college student seeking an internship opportunity in the General Administration Department's Environmental Justice Section. The Environmental Justice Internship will provide an exciting opportunity for students to learn about and assist with activities in various departments, sections, and program areas. Work assignments will expose students to the wide range of activities associated with Environmental Justice principles and practices. All work activities are designed to advance MWRD's Strategic Plan, which focuses on Engagement, Collaboration, Innovation, Equity, and Resilience. Work assignments and locations will vary so applicants must have access to reliable transportation. Students will be required to submit a summary report of their experience at the conclusion of their internship.

Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $18.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skilled in MS Office, especially Excel
  • Familiarity and/or personal experience with environmental justice
  • Ability to think logically and apply knowledge to new and unique situations
  • Good organizational and communication skills

Educational Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program seeking a degree in a career path related to advancing Environmental Justice issues.
  • All majors open to apply.
