MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking an intern to serve in the Budget Office. During the internship, the intern will gain experience working within a budget development and administration office. Some duties will be but are not limited to: reviewing documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance; and preparing periodical and special reports.

The intern will also gain experience monitoring the spending of various commitment items to ensure they are within budget utilizing the SAP system. They will also spend time forecasting numbers based on historical trends. The intern will also gain experience in writing, proofreading skills, and editing techniques.

Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $18.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Analytical thinking and data analyses

Educational Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program majoring in business, public administration, political science, or a related field.
  • Specialization in accounting, finance, or public finance preferred.
