Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents:

  • Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.
  • Resume

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is seeking an intern in the Board of Commissioner's Office. The interns' key responsibilities will focus on conducting community outreach to promote events, increase networking and raise awareness of MWRD through the following duties:

  • Represent commissioner at various events throughout the District and engage with members of the public to educate them on MWRD's mission and goals.
  • Create social media and newsletter content focused on commissioner's role at MWRD, upcoming events and relevant public information.
  • Help develop strategies to increase community engagement and create new initiatives to enhance environmental protections and advocacy.

Interns will gain knowledge of MWRD's critical work to treat and manage water and advocate for the environment while building experience in government relations, environmental science and communications. This internship will provide the opportunity to develop and sharpen skills needed for continuing their studies as well as future employment. 


Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $18.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with various social media platforms
  • Comfortable working with the public and public speaking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly

Educational Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program majoring in public relations, political science, or environmental science.
