Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $15.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents

  • Referral from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
  • Cover letter stating interest in position.  

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university.
  • Permanent residency in Cook County (students may attend school outside the county limit).
  • Applicants must be a citizen or national of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an individual otherwise legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Candidates are required to submit the Online Internship Application, submit a cover letter and referral letter through MWRD’s Online Employment Center.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is in search of a current student seeking an internship opportunity in the Information Technology (IT) Department. The prospective intern will work alongside IT staff members from different areas, including the Project Management Office, Application Development, Networking/Infrastructure and Service Desk Management. The intern will gain knowledge about the District's IT Department and its many functions by assisting staff with various duties including service desk (helpdesk) calls, incident management, PC installations/support, and business analysis/process management. They will be exposed to IT service processes and mini projects on demand. In the IT Service Desk and Support areas, the intern will participate in various IT Service Management projects as needed. The prospective intern will learn the importance of customer communication and satisfaction when problem solving, technology integration practices when moving from one platform to another, and how to properly dispose of technology according to MWRD internal procedures. By the conclusion of this experience the intern should be able to articulate and demonstrate the approach to meeting the various technological needs of the District while assisting with the provision of technology solutions that support optimized District operation.

Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $15.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

Applicants must have a current residence in Cook County, IL; be a citizen or national of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an individual otherwise legally authorized to work in the U.S.; and must obtain a letter of recommendation from the school’s Internship Coordinator or Departmental Dean, or professor.

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in Information Technology or Information Systems or a related field of study and possess good interpersonal skills.
