Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) is looking to hire a talented and experienced Operations Director for an executive residence. The incumbent assists in all aspects of managing and operating in an executive environment. The Operations Director supervises and coordinates activities related to preventative maintenance for the facility, service, repair and replacement of any and all systems, electrical, heating, cooling, mechanical, fire suppression systems, smoke detectors, irrigation systems, appliances, building components, and ground maintenance, including troubleshooting, while ensuring the security, safety, privacy and comfort of executive staff and those residing in the facility. The Operations Director works with staff to ensure background checks are completed on all individuals that need to be on the grounds or in the residence, and escorts all individuals and enforces the protocol in place for safety and security, assists staff with set up and dismantle for traditional, seasonal and scheduled events as needed, obtains bids for replacement of items needed in the residence related to maintenance, repairs, service, interior and exterior work, yard maintenance and plantings. This position is classified as an “essential employee” and is required to report to or remain at the site during emergency situations.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from
an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.
- At least 5 years of full-time
experience in building maintenance and operations.
- At least 2 years of experience
working with executive staff or higher-level officials/administrators.
- Strong written and verbal
communication skills for interacting with executive and senior leadership,
agency management, staff, vendors and building tenants.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Work
involves special physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders,
etc.
