POSITION DUTIES

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to fill the role of Senior Executive Director, Office of Communications and Community Engagement. This pivotal position will drive the development and execution of a comprehensive internal and external communications, marketing, and community engagement strategy to enhance MSDE's public image, foster community connections, and ensure effective communication across various platforms.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide strategic leadership in developing and executing comprehensive internal and external communications, marketing, and community engagement strategies.
  • Establish and evaluate communication, community engagement, marketing, and strategy objectives aligned with MSDE's priorities and goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, ensuring accurate representation of MSDE's priorities, goals, and values.
  • Develop and implement strategies for crisis communications response to foster trust and credibility among media partners and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Seven years of experience in leadership with expertise in the areas of developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies.

Notes: Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the position for two years of the required experience.

  • Internal and external communications, marketing, and/or community engagement experience in education or state government.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must consent to State and FBI (CJIS) background check as a routine procedure for all MSDE employees.
