Main Purpose of Job
Cooperation of responsibilities with Assistant Athletic Director for the Middle School athletic programs at the Columbia Campus. Responsibilities include preparing, maintaining, and inventorying athletic equipment and apparel. Serves as a secondary building manager during athletic practices and games and is responsible for ensuring that all facilities and grounds are prepared for each game, as well as ensuring that they are cleaned up after each event. Provides support as a scorekeeper and timer when needed, and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Columbia Campus.
POSITION DUTIES
Prepares, maintains,
and inventorying the athletic equipment at the Columbia Campus;
Adjusts and repairs
sports equipment;
Launders and maintains
various types of athletic clothing;
Maintains inventory
records and applies inventory control procedures;
Participates in
appropriate professional development training and workshops;
Helps with the
preparation of summer sports camps;
Provides equipment
management and maintenance when sports are in sessions, including summer sports
camps;
Makes periodic safety
checks of the athletic facilities, when asked;
Provides support as
needed, including driving, while traveling to and from away games and practices
on Frederick Campus for some of the sports;
Assesses emergency and
crisis situations, communicates with the Assistant Athletic Director for
appropriate contacts and referrals, and provides interim emergency medical and
other assistance until specialized assistance is available;
Maintains strict
confidentiality of students, as well as school personnel information;
Follows written and
oral instructions and
Performs other related
duties assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma required.
Experience in working
with Sports Management or related fields preferred.
Fluency in ASL, written
English, and knowledge of Deaf community required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to obtain
crowd manager certification;
Ability to learn
emergency medical procedures;
Ability to obtain
CPR/First Aid certification and
Skill in written English
sufficient to permit fluent and accurate communication with students and
parents/guardians who are not proficient in American Sign Language.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned
duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such
duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in
the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this
classification are required to be proficient in American Sign Language and in
written English.
2. Candidates will
need to provide three letters of recommendation.
3. Hold or obtain a valid
driver license.
4. New hires are
subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
