LOCATION OF POSITION
State House, Annapolis, MD
POSITION DUTIES
General Purpose:
The Communications Director to the Lt. Governor will serve as Lt. Governor Aruna Miller’s
primary communications staffer. This position will manage press requests, serve as primary
speechwriter, and assists in longer-term strategic communications planning for the Lt. Governor.
This position will pitch stories and interviews in addition to serving as the Lt. Governor’s primary
traveling press staffer, responsible for planning and staffing press events both inside and
outside the State House. This individual will also be the primary staffer managing the Lt.
Governor’s social media accounts.
In addition to supporting the Lt. Governor’s communications efforts, this individual will
collaborate on the day-to-day operations of the Governor Wes Moore’s Communications Office
and will help produce and edit written materials for the Governor’s Office, as needed.

Responsibilities:
● Draft remarks, talking points, statements, press releases, media advisories, fact sheets,
and briefing materials for the Lt. Governor and the Governor’s Communications Office
● Manage press requests for the Lt. Governor, pitch stories, and staff interviews
● Assist the Lt. Governor in preparing for media appearances and speaking engagements
● Plan, staff, and advance press events both inside and outside the State House
● Help the Governor’s Communications Office with day-to-day operations and lead on
special projects, significant press releases, and larger events as needed
● Manage the Lt. Governor’s social media accounts, including producing digital content
● Assist with longer-term planning to find strategic opportunities for the Lt. Governor to
amplify the Governor’s messaging and advance the Administration’s agenda
● Report to Lt. Governor’s Chief of Staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree and a minimum 3 years of experience working in a political
communications environment; working knowledge of Maryland politics preferred;
experience building relationships with members of the media; experience managing
social media accounts and/or producing digital content.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent communications skills, including writing and speaking. Ability to quickly
analyze issues, and explain/message issues. Highly organized individual with the ability
to manage and execute several projects simultaneously. This individual must work well
with others in a highly stressful environment, build strong relationships with coworkers
and members of the media. Ability to travel and work nights and weekends. Ability to
maintain confidential information. Commitment to equity and inclusion and a passion for
