Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrator IV. Administrator VI encompasses the full performance to second line managerial levels of administrative staff work related to the administration of departmental policy and overseeing or coordinating agency operations or functioning as a special assistant to an executive.

This position is Special Appointment and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position are to enforce the regulations of the State Athletic Commission, to administer the office of the Commission, and to manage staff at Commission sanctioned events. All purposes are directly linked to working to protect the safety of all competing contestants and to reflecting fairness and equity is all decisions rendered by the Commission.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • At Commission-sanctioned combative sports events: Supervise a staff of up to approximately 25 individuals-including referees, judges, physicians and inspectors; enforce regulations; oversee contests; compile official data; respond to medical issues; and schedule and manage medical examinations and drug testing for contestants. Review, certify and approve the issuance of licenses; and serve as the official custodian of records for the Commission. 
  • Convey, and exchange, information and critical data with licensees via the  telephone, e-mail, U.S. mail and facsimile to enforce the regulations of the  commission; prepare all required documents in preparation for the  regulation of commission-sanctioned combative sports events;  administrate the day-to-day management of the office; and serve as the  principal liaison for all business negotiations with promoters involved in  boxing, MMA and wrestling who are desirous of potentially doing  business in, and holding events in, the State of Maryland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: 5 years of professional administrative work with 2 years of managerial experience

Notes: Candidates may substitute 5 years of professional administrative work for the Bachelors degree.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience identifying, recruiting, training nd developing talented teams of employees

Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suites

Experience with managing or assisting coordination of combative sporting events

Experience interpreting government regulations and statues

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
