The Department of Service and Civic Innovation was established by the Serving Every Region Through Vocational Exploration (SERVE) Act of 2023 with the purpose of promoting service and volunteerism in the state of Maryland. The SERVE Act also launched two exciting new service pathways for eligible youth and adults, in addition to existing volunteer and service opportunities available through​ the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism and Volunteer Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

DSCI interns will be tasked with supporting department staff in key areas including (1) Member Support; (2) Partnership Development; (3) Professional Development; and (4) Communications. Interns will be responsible for discrete projects involving research, outreach/public engagement, drafting short memoranda, and supporting professional development programming and other DSCI convenings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited high school, college/university, graduate college, or trade school. All high school applicants must be either junior or senior year students.

Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week.

College Students Required Documents:

  • Academic Letter from School or a Professional Recommendation
  • Unofficial Transcript
  • A GPA of 2.5 or above

High School Student Required Documents:
