Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

These positions direct and coordinate a comprehensive program of vocational rehabilitation services to their assigned regional offices and to support their assigned Regional Director.

 Position Duties include:

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of the Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisors and staff in their assigned region
  • Manage the personnel and financial resources of the local offices and assist in managing regional resources
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with State agencies, private agencies, community organizations, and businesses to promote and facilitate the employment of individuals with disabilities;
  • Assist in developing strategic and short-range plans for the region and the local offices
  • Oversee the professional development and training of staff to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and best practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in from an accredited college or university

EXPERIENCE: Four years of professional work experience in providing rehabilitation services, two years of which must have been as a Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist and one year of the required experience must have included direct supervision of other professional employees or the technical lead of a vocational rehabilitation sub-program.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Possession of a master’s degree or graduate course work in  Management, Administration, Vocational Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, or related 
  • Certification by an approved Commission

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the MSDE Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS).
