Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Maryland Comptroller is seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Communications team. This internship is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in public affairs, writing, and communications for a government agency. As a Communications Intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals to gain hands-on experience in communications activities and strategy.

This internship will be available for 8 weeks during the months of June through August. Interns will complete between 16 and 20 hours of work per week.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assisting with writing and editing press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials.
  • Research and information gathering for communication projects related to Office of the Comptroller initiatives and projects
  • Compiling media reports
  • Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions
  • Contributing to special projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Current college student enrolled in an accredited community college or four year university with an concentration in the fields of Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, English, Government, or related field.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent research and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Positive demeanor and willingness to learn
  • Receptive to feedback
  • Strong interest in government and public affairs
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
