As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

This is professional level position which supervises the agency’s Consultative Examination Scheduling Unit and is aimed at promoting the medical community’s understanding of and participation in the disability program with special emphasis on the consultative examination process.

Job Duties Include:
  • Direct, train, coordinate and supervise the activities of the consultative examination scheduling unit to ensure effective scheduling of appointments, including establishing annual performance standards in conjunction with federal and state performance expectations. 
  • Provide an ongoing review of consultative exam and qualified medical source examination reports for quality of content, timeliness of report delivery and responsibility for follow-up actions.
  • Develop and implement trainings for the DDS Operations staff, the Consultative examination scheduling unit and the medical and psychiatric consultant staff on scheduling, monitoring process procedures and the timely delivery of consultative exam reports. 
  • Provide orientations and training to new Consultative Examination providers regarding SSA requirements for scheduling and reporting timeframes, reporting guidelines, testing protocols, confidentiality, treatment issues authorization and billing procedures. Be available for follow-up and monitoring as needed. 
  • Follow up on all general referrals and claimant satisfaction surveys. Investigate and resolve any complaints presented. 
  • Conduct an ongoing statewide Consultative Examination provider recruitment program to ensure that the Consultative Examination panel is adequately staffed with physicians, psychologists, testing facilities and labs. 
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Medical Relations Director. In the Medical Relations Director’s absence, assume responsibility as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree or at least 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of administrative experience working with medical vendors or disability programs. 

Notes:
  1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's degree and two additional years of experience as described above for the required education. 
  2. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104, Annotated Code of Maryland.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Supervisory experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
