Main Purpose of Job

To provide Professional Development and other supports to field staff, including Teachers and Principals. The position will also support all Coordinators with PD and research. Work with director and deputy director to facilitate major office meetings and data analysis.

POSITION DUTIES

- Provide professional development on a variety of topics to include large group, small group, and individualized support consistent with the vision and mission of Correctional Education. Support schools with the school improvement planning process and professional learning communities. 
- Plan and execute major meetings in HQ including Systems, Coordinator and DPSCS meetings. 
- Use data to respond to the professional development needs of Correctional Education program.
- Research academic materials, resources, instructional strategies, and programs to determine effectiveness to improve student student achievement aligned to the goals of the CE Academic Program, Occupational, Special Education, and Transition programs.
- Assist the Coordinators with projects, reports, and needs of the Academic, Special Education, Transition, and Occupational Programs with the goals of meeting metrics and standards set forth by the Department of Labor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of administrative, librarian, teaching or rehabilitation work in education, library or rehabilitation programs.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as defined above directly related to the position at the rate of one year of experience for each year of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

3. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104, Annotated Code of Maryland.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience providing professional development.
- Experience providing technical assistance in an educational program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
