Introduction

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of State Government. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Paralegal II in the Contract Litigation Unit.  Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing paralegal and administrative support to meet the requirements and goals of the Unit.  This position manages assigned cases from case inception through case closure; assists Attorneys with trial preparation and document management; organizes and manages large-scale document collection and production; coordinates all aspects of eDiscovery; prepares client documents for production; attends meetings as needed; and writes internal summaries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. 

Experience: Three years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary performing legal research or preparing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.  

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations, analysis of operational programs, or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess:

1.  Experience using  Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, and Westlaw.
2.  Experience using data base applications, including document review and production/electronic discovery software.
3.  Familiarity with court rules and procedures
4.  Knowledge of Maryland law.
