Introduction
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT)
leads the State in the creation and implementation of information technology
solutions that improve IT infrastructure and government services and keep
Maryland current within IT industry trends. Currently DoIT’s Business
Intelligence offering is the Qlik Sense platform.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Provide technical troubleshooting and analysis in support of BI platforms, applications, websites, and databases. Solve technical problems and seek known solutions related to more complex issues;
- Collect and analyze data concerning BI programming and development projects to determine the purpose, work methods used, cause and effect of problems to determine if issues need to be elevated to a level II employee.
- Prepare conceptual designs of proposed new or revised BI solutions outlining the purpose, software components, hardware requirements, cost analysis and alternative solutions in support of the DoIT Statement Of Work (SoW) process;
- Contribute to technical designs detailing input, processes, output and controls using narrative reports and analysis tools such as flowcharts, diagrams, operating instructions, program documentation, user documentation, documentation to support software changes, test plans, scope statements and other deliverables required by the work request or project;
- Design, code, and test new and modified code for BI platforms, applications, websites, and databases;
- Trains users in the use of new and revised BI applications;
- ServiceNow ticket handling and management, and documentation per the DoIT ServiceNow Ticket Handling Etiquette guidelines;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to
candidates who have one or more of the following skillsets or experience:
- Application architecture experience with data and BI Tools (especially Qlik Sense) with strong analytical capabilities for programming and set analysis.
- Experience scripting in SQL, Python etc. to query databases and deployment of BI Applications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached. Employees may be furnished with a pager or cell phone.
Applicants for this classification may handle sensitive
data. This will require a full scope
background investigation prior to appointment.
A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the applicant.
Employees may occasionally be required to travel
to field locations and must have access to an automobile in the event a state
vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of
a privately owned vehicle.
