POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide licensed forensic psychological and evaluative services to a forensically involved patient population that is predominantly hospitalized at a 24/7 in-patient facility, as well as, on a limited basis, on an outpatient basis to forensically involved individuals currently residing in detention or in the community. The Psychologist performs a variety of Forensic Psychological evaluations, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and risk/dangerousness evaluations. This Psychologist will also be required to routinely provide prepared evaluations. This psychologist will also be required to routinely provide prepared reports as to their findings, as well as testimony in various types of court proceedings (such as criminal and administrative law hearings) relating to their assigned forensic cases, or potentially other matters in which they are called upon to consult. These services are performed under general supervision. Subject to approval by their supervisor, this position may supervise psychology students (externs), who are not state employees, but are here for training purposes. This position also provides forensic psychological services on a inpatient and outpatient basis to adults with court involvement and associated with Spring Grove Hospital Center.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the Psychologist license.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience in the following:
  • supervising psychology extern students who are not state employees
  • using critical thinking and analysis using a wide database of information sources including legal, medical and clinical information
  • independently performing a variety of forensic evaluations including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and risk evaluation

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position.  Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may apply before receipt of the required license but the application will be designated in pending status by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Testing Unit. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to MDH to remove the pending status from the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
