Introduction

The Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) is located in Hunt Valley, Maryland. We are a State agency charged with conducting fair and timely hearings in more than 500 different types of cases for over 30 State agencies. This hearing function provides an opportunity for citizens to contest administrative actions of Maryland State agencies, such as the Motor Vehicle Administration, local departments of social services, and the Maryland Department of Health.

The OAH’s goal is to offer our employees flexibility and the ability to work in a professional environment.  This position is telework eligible following the completion of the initial probationary and training period.  This is a full-time position offering full employee benefits such as health insurance, paid leave, paid holidays, and a defined pension plan. The starting salary range is $57,206 to S60,459/year.   (State salary guidelines apply for current and reinstated State employees.)

POSITION DUTIES

The main responsibility of this position is to develop and maintain the monthly Administrative Law Judge master calendar for all hearing assignments, trainings, meetings, and leave requests. This position also supervises Dockets Clerks who process requests for hearings and maintain case files for various agencies, boards, and commissions. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience working within a court or other legal case management system that includes the processing and scheduling of hearing requests or maintenance of calendars for judges.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

For best consideration, applicants should have supervisory experience, be detail oriented, organized, have strong verbal and written skills, and experience using excel (including being able to merge cells, add rows/columns, link data, etc.)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
