Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Officer I. This skilled position serves as the Administrative Officer for the Department of Labor. Administrative Officer I is administrative work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans or policies. Employees in this classification are assigned administrative responsibilities involving the analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvements.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Administrative Service Manager of the Office of General Services (OGS), and provide consistent and dependable support to the daily operations for the Department of Labor. This position relates to the agency’s mission in that it provides consistent and dependable support for Labor employees who, through their efforts, provide economic stability to the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Provide Assistance to Administrative Services Manager. Schedules pick up for confidential recycling material and accompanies vendors on scheduled pick up dates to verify completion of job. Sets up travel bookings for employees. Arranges appointments and interviews. Maintains important and confidential records, schedules, expense accounts and office supplies. Performs all duties related to fleet activities. Provides other critical administrative support when required.

Full range of customer service duties. Greets and assists visitors with information, directions, and assistance. Maintain visitor log and provide visitor tracking reports. Collect and file documents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year of experience creating spreadsheets using office software applications in Google Workspace (Sheets), Microsoft Office (Excel), and Smartsheet for project management.

Experience with project management.

Experience with financial management information systems.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
