Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary function of this position is to plan, direct, perform, evaluate, follow-up, coordinate and administer activities associated with the safe and efficient operation of a state park within the Maryland Park Service.

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is currently acceptingapplications for an Administrative Officer I for Gunpowder Falls State Park. This position will beresponsible for preparing, processing and approving purchase orders and corporate card purchasesto include solicitation for state bids. The incumbent should have knowledge of state fiscal and procurements regulations and will assist the park manager in the preparation and monitoring of the park’s budget.

Additional duties include: assists park management with the preparation and tracking of leases, including operational and rental dwellings, agricultural leases, and facility-use leases and agreements. Tracks relevant information in the maintenance of such agreements, including payments, required service contracts, house hours, renewal deadlines, and required inspections. Supervises a classified Administrative Specialist III, employee and serves as office manager, orders office supplies and maintains office files. Oversees revenue collections from park honor boxes and concession operations and prepares deposits. Provides the visiting public with information, policies and regulations pertaining to fishing, hunting and the use of public lands.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work. 

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience using the following office hardware/equipment: printers, scanners, personal computer, external hard drives, copier, iPad or similar device, smart phone, digital phone system, cash register
  • Two years of experience using the following computer software: Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Internet Explorer, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive
  • Two years of experience dealing with customers/public in the following manners: telephone, e-mail, written correspondence, face-to-face contact
  • Two years of experience monitoring and reconciling fiscal/budgetary resources.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
