Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide diverse administrative and clerical support to the Security Director and Deputy Director. The Administrative Aide will review, analyze, and revise complex departmental plans, policies, and procedures. This position will review and analyze operational outputs and provide recommendations for improvements. This position is the department’s Workday Timekeeper and responsible for all recruitment activities including scheduling interviews, organizing interview panels according to interviewing guidelines, reviewing interview packets for accuracy and completeness, calling references, and updating MS22s.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties. Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience collecting, aggregating, analyzing, and reporting data 
  • Experience scheduling meetings and taking minutes

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
