and drive success the Natural Resource Planner I is eligible for an annual
promotion. The incumbent may advance to a higher grade within the classification series, based on satisfactory work performance.
Progressive grade levels include:
Natural Resource Planner II – Grade 15 ($53,627 - $85.951)
Natural Resource Planner III – Grade 16 ($57,095 - $91,742)

Main Purpose of Job
The Natural Resources Planner I is an entry-level position in the Water Supply Program that will support the Program's primary requirements for implementing the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The incumbent in this position will learn to evaluate treatment adequacy at public water systems; review treatment proposals for capital improvements; meet with public water systems as needed to discuss water quality and treatment needs; review water quality monitoring reports submitted by public water systems; and provide recommendations to assist water systems in correcting water quality problems and/or improving water treatment operations. The incumbent will also work with other divisions in the Program to discuss treatment strategies, and to discuss concerns pertaining to source water quality and availability. Work involves exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings.
The incumbent in this position
may be required to drive a State vehicle. If you maintain an out-of-state
driving license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record for
the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment.
Individuals must maintain a driver’s license with no more than 5 points on
their driving record in order to drive State vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
Experience: None.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical, biological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the general natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or general natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the general natural resources management and biological sciences field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:
§ Experience with computer
programming (R, python, SQL, etc.) or database query and extractions skills
(Excel, Access);
§ Coursework in any of the
following: environmental engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology or
hydrogeology;
§ Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
